The story of Trujillo’s Comedor y Cantina began decades before our doors first opened. As early as 1955, Silverio and Delia Trujillo were building their lives in the restaurant business with El Chico in Dallas, where Silverio worked in the kitchen and Delia as a hostess at El Chico No. 5 on Lovers Lane. As their careers grew, the Trujillo family made Waco their home, where Silverio eventually became manager of El Chico No. 14 and Delia became active in Waco’s restaurant community.

After more than two decades of experience in the restaurant business, Silverio and Delia became the owners of El Nopal in Waco in 1978, taking over the established restaurant at Southgate and beginning a new chapter of their own. Then, on December 1, 1981, they opened Trujillo’s Comedor y Cantina, carrying forward the experience, work ethic, hospitality, and love of serving others they had developed together over the years.

What began with a young husband and wife working their way through the restaurant business became a Waco family tradition spanning generations. Today, the legacy Silverio and Delia built lives on through their five daughters, who continue to own and operate Trujillo’s as a family, carrying forward their parents’ traditions and proudly welcoming new generations of guests to the table.
